OSHKOSH, Wis. – Mercy Medical Center is ranked No. 1 in Wisconsin, and among the Top 5 percent nationally for overall orthopaedics, joint replacement and spine surgery, according to a new study released by HealthGrades, a leading independent health care quality company.

Mercy received the following HealthGrade honors:

  • Top 5 percent nationally in overall orthopaedics, joint replacement and spine surgery
  • No. 1 in Wisconsin for overall orthopaedics, joint replacement and spine surgery
  • 5-star rated for overall orthopaedics, joint replacement and spine surgery
  • Orthopaedic Excellence Award recipient.

As part of its ninth annual Hospital Quality in America Study, HealthGrades independently analyzed nearly 5,000 hospitals throughout the United States, assessing their clinical outcomes, performance and quality. The HealthGrades ratings measure whether patient outcomes for each of more than two dozen procedures and diagnoses are better than expected (5-Star), as expected (3-Star) or worse than expected (1-Star). Earning a 5-Star designation indicates that a hospital has scored in the Top 15 percent or better in the nation for clinical quality.

“We are truly honored to receive this recognition,” said Daniel E. Neufelder, president and chief executive officer of Affinity Health System. “These honors shine the spotlight on the quality of care Mercy Medical Center staff provide to orthopaedic and spine surgery patients. It’s exciting to know that patients, families and employers in Northeast Wisconsin have easy access to health care that is among the best in the nation.”

HealthGrades is the leading health care ratings company, providing ratings and profiles of hospitals, nursing homes and physicians to consumers, corporations, health plans and hospitals. HealthGrades’ independent ratings and complete suite of health-management tools are relied upon by 3 million consumers each month as well as more than 125 of the nation’s largest employers and health plans and more than 300 hospitals.
