Our Commitment to Patient Safety and Quality
Patient safety is one of the nation’s most pressing health care challenges. Preventable medical errors that occur during hospitalizations cause between 44,000 to 98,000 deaths each year. Medical errors can cause extended hospital stays, additional treatments, or permanent disabilities.
NHP would like its members to be aware of why safety measures are important and the types of interventions members should expect from their providers.
NHP has encouraged its contracted hospitals to participate in the Leapfrog Group’s patient safety initiatives. The Leapfrog Group was founded by the Business Roundtable and works to initiate breakthrough improvements in healthcare safety.
